More information on VSMC 9612(A) provided from IRC IRC Chat logs from #Emu arranged by Typhoon Z Unwanted and unrelated materials filtered --[The_Brain returns on a netsplit and my log begins!]----------------------- *** The_Brain (thebrain@ns.iceonline.com) has joined #emu where is the new VSMC --[The_Brain talks about speed]---------------------------------------------- the_brain: irq and refresh set to lowest value, comparing VSMC 9610a.5 and 9611 lepper: ... The new version uses many different functions, and the speed in Windows may have been lepper: MAYBE... I'm not sure... I'll check it out myself, tho... thanks. hemm.... lepper: (Try using IRQ = '2' and compare the two versions...) --[The_Brain talks about ordering VSMC]-------------------------------------- <]RowaN[> The Brain: how can i order from England? rowan: All the information in on the www page. rowan: The same way you'd order from the U.S. rowan: (cept it's $5 more) <]RowaN[> TB: "attach any necessary funds" says you form. How much is that in Pounds sterling? rowan: Read the www page. <]RowaN[> TB: I may order after xmas, when I get enough money. Boy you drive a hard bargain! --[Conventional Memory and using UNIVBE]------------------------------------- * The_Brain sighs.... * EtherMan grumbles something about insufficient conventional memory etherman: Oh... yeah.. Alright... I will in the next version. TB: ? etherman: How much've you got? TB: Optimize VSMC so it uses less conventional memory! =) tz: ... I could... But then it wouldn't be any fun! :) TB: Well, I can't run it with UNIVBE now. TB: UNIVBE sped VSMC up for me by 33% in graphics routines. tz: REALLY! _that_'s great! (i noticed that you put it up on usenet... I had no idea why) TB: Heh... you should put a notice up about UNIVBE on your web site TB: I have 625k of Conventional Memory left... and VSMC needs more =) tz : where can i get univbe? thanks tz! i have univbe 5.2 TB: It seriously makes VSMC incredible., What improves VSMC????!?!?! CyberDg : $35 sent to the_brain hehe santa is going to bring me VSMC regged! =] Far: LOL ^^ tz: That's a good idea! I'll do that (I've gotta try that, myself, too!! :) TB: I only just figured that out about 2 weeks ago, but I'm going to throw up a mention on my page about it... tz: Erm... that's not right. tz: I only have 580K (from Windows), and I can still run VSMC fine. tb: i usually have like 604 k freein DOS and it still wants more I use univbe in DOS mode only, I dont recomend it in Windows, it messes up your refresh rates, and it messed up my screen resolutions/colour depth univbe doesnt do anything for my performance. I guess my 968 is good enough without it (although its outdated) TB: I have 625,984 bytes of Conventional Memory left and it wants more =) --[The_Brain gets time to think about the Conventional Memory Problem]------- TB: Did you figure out that Conventional memory thing? tz: I don't know why your's is so screwey.... TB: Ooooh... no, yours is SCREWY. hello Tz Astro: YOU ARE SCREWY TOO! tz: Well... Yeah... that too. Tz: huh --[The_Brain talks about the VSMC Operating System]-------------------------- TheBrain: Does the OS do anything for VSMC besides copy protection? jag0: Erm.. It lets you _run_ VSMC... :) TB: hehe.. no advantages over DOS then? Like better speed? the_brain: How come every time you say to run VSMC under DOS rather than Windows 95, I see no difference in speed? :) --[The_Brain takes on a new project for translating Japanese games]---------- The Brain: Do you know anything about text coding? It's so SLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW converting the code by hand.. :) som2freak: Yes.. What form are you referring to? The Brain: I...well, I figured out the hex for the Japanese characters in FF2j... :) I need to get a program that will allow me to decode the coding in FF2j to readable text som2freak: ... ! Oh.. It's easy to program. The Brain: Really?!! Wowzers!! I need your help!! :) * SoM2Freak thanks The_Brain profusely Here, TB, I'll send you the codes for the Final Fantasy 2j text som2: thanks. The Brain: You're welcome! Very much! :) The Brain: Can you do anything with those codes..? Like...make a decoder with them? :) som2 : which editors did you get off that page haz told us about? any that will do tile editing? Demi: I don't know yet :) I'm trying them all out First I want to see if we can get help from The_Brain :) som2 : tried any of those sprite editors? Demi: Yes, but most of them like...didn't work :) som2 : bad news! =[ Demi: :( * SoM2Freak begs The_Brain to help him and DEMILIX * DEMILIX tugs on the_brain's pantleg * SoM2Freak sniffles and looks cutesy * DEMILIX does the big bambi eyes thing * SoM2Freak asks The_Brain "Excuse me Mr. Brain sir, could you pretty please help Mr. Demilix and I?" :) I will be a humble fan of VSMC forever :) Where IS TB...I gave him my ff2jcode.txt...he BETTER help Demi and I or I'll get mad :( * SoM2Freak pouts :| Demi: Well..I don't know that you're any more of the leader than I am :P I've done all the stuff so far, and TB has done more than you or Berz IMO som2: OH YEA! I forgot to tell you!! :) TB: :) hehe som2: Use XLATE {offset} from the command line... ie: XLATE 128000 TB: Ok! Cool! Thanks :) Demi: I'm sorry...but really...I've done everything (no fake modesty :)) --[The_Brain talks about his Apple ][ emulator]------------------------------ tb: I'd be interested in checking out your Apple 2 emulator based on VSMC, just for kicks. lepper: :) really? I may just post it, then, when I add Disk drive support. the_brain: is it a GS, +, c, or e apple emulator? lepper: It depends upon which ROM you stick in there... I've made a IIe and a ][+ emu. the_brain: An apple 2+ emulator with .DSK support would rool. although ApplePC is very good already. I wonder how good the ApplePC emulator would be at emulating an SNES if the author added the extra crap to it.. the_brain: How fast did you find the Apple emulation was compared to some of the other emulators out there? (just curious) lepper: ... Since my (Apple) emulator is based on the 65816, it's a bit slower. tb: Hm. I would think you could make quite a successful 6502 Apple emulator.. if you tweeked it lepper: Oh! Of course! It's so much easier than the SNES!! :) lepper: I made a working Apple emu in an evening! :) tb: Why not do it? If you made one with sound it would rule. Also an NES emulator would be cool since none of the others are any good. tb: And personally I am more fanatic about the NES than the SNES. lepper: my apple emulator already has sound/music! :) (it's SO EASY!) TB: Dude... =) TB: You are nifty. TB: You made an Apple emu too? tb: Duuuude! tb: you HAVE to release that thing :) tb: why not make lots of spinoffs of VSMC.. the more the merrier.. (except the apple emulator should be free since its so easy :) tb: PLEAse do a C64 emulator and some arcade emulation! :) C64 emulation is a bitch cause its jury-rigged like the SNES :) the_brain: how hard would it be to put dsk support into the makeshift apple emulator you hacked up? lepper: I don't really know... Right now, I'm 'sorta' working on getting the language card to work properly... But I had only intended the emulator to serve as a debug tool for VSMC. the_brain: if only you knew.. :) the_brain: Actaully an NES emulator would be much more respectible than an apple 2 one, but it wouldnt serve you any purpose really. lepper: ... I think that there were more Apple 2-series users than NES users... (And the Apple 2 is easier to emulate...) lepper: ... But, yes, I think that the NES emu would be more respectable. definitely! :) Apple IIgs was used at my school for SOOO long --[The_Brain talks about the security of the VSMC OS Disks]------------------ TB: I have to ask, do you think that the vsmc os disks can't be pirated? I see no use for vsmc having its own os tb: the dmf format of microsoft disks was supposed to be uncopiable, what makes you think that people won't figure out how to copy vsmc? infe: FOR THE LAST TIME.. the VSMC O/S disks CANNOT be copied.. No RAW copier works, no hardware-based $10,000 duplicator works. The: i bet i can copy them samoan: Because I've _TRIED_ myself. I've had my friends try. I've had ppl with hardware duplicators try. TB: i *KNOW* i can TB: everyone has the right to make *1* copy of any software they buy for backup (archival) purposes icewizard: ... You go ahead and try, then. TB: =-0 tb : exactly, how can you keep a disk from being copied? I don't understand why a raw copy of sectors wouldn't work. icewizard: ... No, they don't have that right. --[The_Brain's situation on sound]------------------------------------------- TB: Do you understand HOW to get the VSMC to have sound? brimstone: Not really. --[Does Seiken Densetsu 3 work?]--------------------------------------------- does the new vmsc run SD3?? SD3?! No SNES emulator will run SD3 yet...I'm pretty sure...:) doh! --[Here's something interesting]--------------------------------------------- WHOAH! TB DIDN'T PKLITE VSMC THIS TIME! TY: he didnt? --[Colors on VSMC Shareware are all but nice]-------------------------------- TB: When can we get the new version? TB: Much as I enjoy staring at a yellow Soulblazer sword...=) *** EtherMan changes topic to "Lufia looks cute in yellow." damn, I really HATE vsmc now! Im sorry TB, but you shouldnt have made it shitware Ether: LOL!! :) Lufia looks cute in yellow...hehehe :) SPW looks GOOD now --[Here we go again]-------------------------------------------------------- *** The_Brain (slipuser@ns.iceonline.com) has joined #emu tb! Brains here jack-ass :) * Typhoon_Z 's mail man is here... Typhoon_Z goes to watch him get the mail and see that his registration goes in the mail =) * The_Brain thanks typhoon_z! Tz: mine will get there first ! * The_Brain thanks Astro|Nt but now i go to wait tell tomorrow to send it because the mail people have came already if anybody beeps too much... then i kill..him... TB: this is the first time i have payed for software =] astro: (I can relate....) hmm no well i bought os/2 warp * Typhoon_Z was a beta tester for OS/2 Warp merlin... 's funny... someone in here told everyone the URL to get on the list when they did it, and I was the only one to be chosen =)... TB: is there going to be a disk sticker ? TB: You are going to love wot I sent you in the mail =) * Typhoon_Z scrolls his text back. * Typhoon_Z printed the VSMC registration sheet, scrumpled it up 50 times and unscrumpled it, cut the edges madly with scissors, and burnt the edges with matches. * Typhoon_Z pours a hell of alot of salt into the envelope with his VSMC payment =) And then my internet connection died for 6 hours. =( ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
